KACEP (Kentucky Chapter, American College of Emergency Physicians) is a state chapter of the

The American College of Emergency Physicians is a medical specialty society representing nearly 20,000 physicians who specialize in emergency medicine. ACEP is dedicated to improving emergency care through continuing education, research, and public education. Headquartered in Dallas, Texas, ACEP has 53 chapters representing each state as well as Puerto Rico, the District of Columbia, and Government Services.

ACEP is the largest Emergency Medicine specialty organization in the United States. Membership is available to physicians interested in or providing emergency care, medical students, or concerned individuals. Annual meetings are held of the membership, and Continuing Education programs are scheduled by KACEP. Membership is available to physicians or medical students having an interest in Emergency Medicine. Learn about joining ACEP

The Kentucky Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians exists to support its members through educational and leadership activities, to foster and promote the practice of quality Emergency Medicine and to serve as an advocate for the public health and the rights of patients to receive quality emergency care. KACEP offers many worthwhile services to its members. Some of the activities that the chapter has accomplished in the past year are:

Continuing Medical Educational (CME) offerings throughout the state
Fall meeting at Louisville Slugger Museum (1999 meeting) will be November 4th at Churchill Downs.
Annual Golf Outing
Bi-monthly newsletter, EPIC
Representation of KACEP and Emergency Medicine issues to the legislators of the state through our Governmental Affairs Committee.
Representation of the Kentucky Chapter at the National Leadership Conference in Washington DC.
Sale of the slide program "Recognition and Evaluation of Injuries in Victims of Domestic Violence"

APLS course

Plans for the upcoming year include:

Increased presence with legislators and lobbying activities on issues related to Emergency Medicine.
Development of a speaker bureau for public relations as well as community education. (
DONE!)
Increased development of the Political Action Committee. (
in Progress!)
Implementation of a Transportation and Safety Committee. (
DONE!)
Development of the EMRA representative’s participation with KACEP (
DONE!)

 

For Active (voting) membership in ACEP (a requirement for membership in KACEP), members must meet the following requirements:

  • Satisfactory completion of an emergency medicine residency program accredited by the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)
  • Satisfactory completion of an emergency medicine sub-specialty training program accredited by ACGME.
  • Satisfactory completion of an emergency medicine residency training program accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).
  • Satisfactory completion of an emergency medicine residency program approved by an ACEP-recognized accrediting body in a foreign country.
  • Certification by an emergency medicine certifying body recognized by ACEP, OR
  • Active membership in the College at any time prior to December 31, 1999.
